Quest 12 Beara is a 151.91km test of your physical and mental endurance designed to challenge you and discover limits you didn’t know you had!
Quest Adventure Series has put together new untested routes for you to explore and test your mettle against the backdrop of the majestic Caha Mountains, Garnish, Dursey, and Bere Islands.
Route distance: 12 hours – 151.91km
Please familiarise yourself with the route maps, race briefing document and the areas on the route where care must be taken. Please observe warning signs, the race steward’s advice, and listen carefully to the race briefing before the race.

Quest 12 Beara consists of 7 stages: The route has been devised to bring you to places you have never been before, both physically and mentally.
Stage 1: Run – 18.35km
Description:Â Starting at Berehaven Golf Club (T1), there is a short road run before you hit the trails. Climb to the top of Maulin Mountain which is a looped run, returning back to Berehaven Golf Club (T1).

- Precautions: Slippery when wet
- Distance: 18.3km run

Stage 2: Cycle – 82.30km
Description: Collecting your bike at T1, cycle east from Berehaven Golf Club along the Wild Atlantic Way. You will cycle over the Healy Pass into the village of Lauragh. From there you continue along the coastal road through the villages of Ardgroom, Eyeries and Allihies. The second transition area (T2) is located on Garnish pier, home to Ireland’s only cable car.

Stage 3: Trail Run – 12.10km
Description:Â From transition 2 on Garnish Pier you will run south on the Beara Way. Heading out along Crow Head you will take in the stunning views of the Dursey Cable Car. This is a gentle, flat trail run with only one short steep section.

Stage 4: Cycle – 25.88km
Description:Â From transition 2, you begin your cycle back to Berehaven Golf Club (T3). Cycling along the stunning coast road through the small fishing village of Castletownbere.

- Terrain: Secondary roads, sealed tarmac
- Precautions: Open secondary roads and debris on the road
- Distance: 25.88km cycle
- Total elevation: 371m

Stage 5: Kayak – 1.5km
Description:Â After racking your bike at transition 3 by Berehaven Golf Club, head down to the pier to collect your kayak. This is an exciting route over to Bere Island.

Stage 6: Run – 10.28km
Description:Â After kayaking to Bere Island, you now head on a trail run past the famous Martello tower and up to the highest point on the island, the Bere Island Cross. Once you get to the cross, follow the trail back to the kayak.

Stage 7: Kayak – 1.5km to the finish
Description:Â From Bere Island you will kayak back across the harbor to the finish line at Berehaven Golf Club.

CHECKPOINTS & TIMING
Each participant will be given a GPS tracker that will track their progress along the prescribed route.
Participants will have to check-in at certain points along the route highlighted on route maps.
